In the Polar Museum, in a building dating from 1830, the tales of the explorers in the Arctic, such as Willem Barents, Roald Amundsen and Fridtjov Nansen are told. Tromsø's past as a centre for hunting in the arctic is equally exciting.
Skansen, Tromsø's oldest house from 1794, is next door, and the 19th century working class street of Verftsgata is just around the corner.
Perspektivet Museum, housed in an 1838 merchant's residence, displays temporary exhibits on the past and present of Tromsø and the Greater North.
At Blåst, the world's northernmost glass factory, the door is open when beautiful things are created.
Mack, the world's northernmost brewery, founded in 1877, is the pride of Tromsø, and you can join a guided tour or just relax at the city's oldest watering hole: Ølhallen.
