Tromsø is the largest city in Northern Norway with more than 60.000 inhabitants. From earlier times known as Paris of the North, it’s more recently referred to as an Arctic metropolis. Tromsø has a lot to offer, whether you’re hunting high quality social settings, work or business opportunities.
When it comes to employment, the largest sectors in Tromsø are health and welfare, commodity trade, hotels and restaurants, and education. Thus the city is clearly marked by the University Hospital in Northern Norway (UNN) and the University of Tromsø (UiT) as extensive and important employers.
In addition a large part of Norwegian fish export is traded from Tromsø. Products from fishing and aquaculture, oil lenses and beer are other vital parts of the local industry.
Lately the northern areas really have been placed on the agenda. There is no doubt that Northern Norway is an area of many opportunities and its value-adding potential has never been higher. Here Tromsø has its natural place, especially with a view to the service sector, research and development.
Twice a year SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge, in co-operation with Innovation Norway, focuses the economic situation and market outlook in Northern Norway through its publication Konjunkturbarometer for Nord-Norge. Here you can follow the area’s development as well as study topics showing sectors with growth potential.
