The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT)

Troms county is large and varied, and the diversity of the landscape is astonishing. A mountain experience can begin in Tromsø, and you can start a hike from the city. Farther east lie the splendid Lyngsfjellan, with some of Norway's finest Alpine terrain. There are many possible summer and winter summit tours. If you like trekking in a canyon, hike through Sørdalen in Bardu or through Reisdalen in Nordreisa. Indre Troms is best if you prefer trekking the high country and its wooded valleys.

DNT have six cabins in the Tromsø-area. Members are given discounts on lodgings at all our cabins. They have priority on bunks when cabins are crowded and can borrow cabin keys against a deposit.

Lodgings cannot always be booked in advance. Everyone who comes to a cabin will have a place to sleep, either in a bunk or on a mattress on the floor if all bunks are taken. The staffed lodges serve meals, but you shouldn't arrive past serving times.

Members can book stays of three nights or more at most staffed lodges, except in high seasons, when the cabins are crowded. In northern Norway, the member associations have only no-service cabins.

The huts have well equipped kitchens, including pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. NB! Food is not available at any of these huts, so you need to bring your own supplies!!

Gas is available for cooking and there are fire places for heating. None of the huts have electricity. Bring candles or torches with you if you want light inside. See details about each hut.

There are also extra mattresses. Duvets and blankets are provided, but everyone using the hut is required to use a sheet sleeping bag/sleeping bag. Duvets are not provided in the huts in the Tromsø area.

One 16-man hut
Take bus 11 from Tromsø towards Oldervik. Get off at Snarbyeidet. From here, it is a hike of 5 km to the hut.

NONSBU
One eight-man hut
9 km to Trollvassbu
11 km to Skarvassbu
6 km to Blåkollkoia
9 km to Tønsvika (take bus 11 from here back to Tromsø)

BLÅKOLLKOIA
One four-man hut
9km to Tønsvik
7km to Skarvassbu

SKARVASSBU
Two huts, one of which sleeps four and the other only has mattresses on the floor.
It is 11km to Tromsdalen. We recommend the summit ascent of Tromsdalstind!

RINGVASSBU
One 10-man hut (not in the network)
11km hike from Simavik
Bus from Tromsø
10km to Grønnliskardet

JÆGERVASSHYTTA
One four-man hut in Lyngen. The loft sleeps a further five.

Ferry Breivikeidet-Svensby (25 mins)
Bus Svensby-Kobbeneset (10 km)
The hut is located along a 3 km trail beside Jægervatn.
