Winter extremes
If cross country and dog sledding in winter doesn't do it for you, the snowcovered winter landscapes around Tromsø have thrills and dangers in store. The blue ice of a frozen waterfall proves irresistible to a seasoned waterfall climber.
A snow covered mountain peak beckons every off-piste skier, whether one chooses to descend on off-piste skis or on a snowboard, and suitable mountains are numerous, from the Island of Kvaløya to the Lyngen Alps. Of a different temperament is snow kiting; sliding on skis or snowboards pulled by a kite across the broad, white expanses of the mountains. Less comprehensible to many is sea kayaking in the fury of the arctic winters.
