Several destinations within the county of Troms have a long tradition and history related to fisheries. The sea and its resources is the reason why many cities and villages were established and flourished along the Norwegian coast.

There are extensive fishery activities in the Barents Sea and in the sea areas outside Tromsø. Several businesses in Tromsø are important suppliers to the national and international fishing fleet. Each year a number of vessels visit Tromsø.

The Port of Tromsø is the Port Authority in issues concerning the location of fish farms and other sea activities.
