The maritime department within the Port of Tromsø is responsible for all maritime services. This is taken care of by the Port Control, which operates a round the clock service and is in charge of activities within the port area.

The Harbour Inspectors main tasks are to control ships traffic in the port area, for example arrivals and departures. This includes serving the ports communications, assigning quays and refusal of anchorage. The Harbour Inspectors are also responsible for ensuring sure that services ordered are delivered on time, such as water, electricity and garbage disposal.

The Inspectors watch the harbour by frequent patrols in addition to camera monitoring. They are responsible for collecting harbour dues.
