Hålogaland Teater, the regional stage of the north, plays drama and comedy for adults and children in Tromsø's melodious dialect. In their new theatre building from 2005, national and international stars as well as local amateur actors also perform.

Another hot spot for the performing arts is the Culture House (Kulturhuset), with an ambitious programme of classical and modern rhythms.

The Student House Drive makes sure the hardcore rock bands are allowed in. The Tromsø Symphonic Orchestra regularly performs around town, often in musical harmony with musical companions of very different temperaments. The Tromsø Jazz Club invites to numerous jazz events, preferably in some atmospheric watering hole. Rica Ishavshotel, one of the city's largest hotels, takes care of stand-up, vaudeville and cabarets.
