The secrets of Tromsø are there for the adventurous to explore: The Military Museum, hosted in a German War-time bunker outside town, tells the story of the sinking of the Tirpitz in November 1944.
The Museum of Telecommunication, near the Airport, is the story on the advent of telecommuncation in the north, including the WWII significance of the Tromsø Radio Station.
Lake Prestvannet, right on top of the island, is a sanctuary for more than a 100 bird species. The implanted carps turn alcoholics in winter due to lack of oxygen.
The cinema Verdensteatret (World Theatre) has been a dream provider to Tromsø's inhabitants since 1916, longer than any other cinema in Northern Europe.
